Finding help and support

The Board of Inquiry’s work involved matters that may have been distressing or traumatic.

The following services may have been available to anyone who is experiencing concern or distress.

  • Beyond Blue

    Call 1300 224 636 (24 hours / 7 days a week)

    Provides free, immediate, short-term counselling, advice and referral to anyone in Australia via telephone, webchat or email.

  • Lifeline

    Call 13 11 14 (24 hours / 7 days a week) or chat to a crisis supporter online (from 7pm to midnight)

    A free, confidential service providing support to anyone in Australia who is feeling overwhelmed, having difficulty coping, or thinking about suicide. This service also provides advice to anyone caring for that person.

  • Head to Health

    The Australian Government’s digital mental health gateway which helps people find mental health services and resources. Includes information and resources for people affected by trauma and stressor-related disorders (e.g. PTSD).

  • MATES in Construction

    Call 1300 642 111 (24 hours / 7 days a week).

    MATES is a charity which provides help and support to construction workers in relation to mental health and suicide prevention. The MATES in Mining program supports workers in the mining industry through case management and a 24/7 help line.

    MATES is independent of employers and unions.

  • Relationships Australia Queensland

    Call 1300 364 277 (Mon-Fri 8am-8pm and Sat 10am-4pm)

    Provides family and relationship counselling as well as a range of specialist counselling services (including assistance for trauma related issues).

  • Carers Australia

    Call 1800 422 737 or email caa@careraustralia.com.au

    Provides short-term counselling and emotional and psychological support services for carers and their families across Australia.
